Meet the Team

Dr John Hume | PI

Originally from Glasgow, Scotland I studied shark and skate embryology for a Masters Degree at the University of Glasgow, before completing a PhD in lamprey evolutionary ecology and conservation (I don’t like bones apparently). I then moved to Michigan State University (MSU) to work with Dr Michael Wagner as a Research Associate investigating ways to improve sea lamprey control in the Great Lakes through the use of the species’ natural chemical cues. I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fisheries & Wildlife at MSU where my interests are broad but my focus remains on lampreys at the organismal level. I am particularly interested in pursuing topics that pertain to lamprey management, either their conservation or control.

I currently live in Lansing, MI with my wife, son, dog, cats, fish, chickens…and when possible I like to fish, hunt, and go birding around the state.
